I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, and am a professor of psychology at the Wright Institute. ‘Fifty years ago I co-founded New Harbinger Publications. More recently, I founded the Berkeley CBT Clinic, and co-founded the Bay Area Trauma Recovery Clinic to serve low-income clients.
I am a psychotherapy researcher and have co-developed five new treatment protocols: Emotion Efficacy Therapy for emotion dysregulation, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Interpersonal Problems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Couples, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Shame-based Depression, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Spiritual Growth and Development.
I have co-written more than 35 psychology professional and self-help books that have combined sales of 4 million copies. I have written or co-written 59x spiritually oriented books, including Your Life On Purpose, Why?, The New Happiness, Seeking Jordan, The Luminous Landscape of the Afterlife, and Love in the Time of Impermanence.
Fourteen years ago my son, Jordan, died and my life, as I had known it, changed. I began a journey to find him and make contact. At first for reassurance that he still existed, and later to learn what he knows about the afterlife and why we come to this difficult planet. During the journey to find him I learned to do post- and between-life hypnotic regressions (I’m a trained hypnotherapist), experienced and then practiced a technique developed by Alan Botkin called Induced After-death Communication, and learned how to do channeled writing from Ralph Metzner. The story of making contact and what I learned from my son appeared in Seeking Jordan (2016). Why Are We Here?, a new book from Jordan, explores the nature of reality (who are we, why are we here, what is this place( while supporting readers to find their own truth as they journal answers to these questions.
